You also have to understand that the extreme set-up means the car will bite in a way that a fast Ford doesn't, especially in poor weather.

When it comes to pure fun and driving thrills, the £31,995 RCZ R is in a completely different league to the VW Golf GTI, too, making the VW feel anaesthetic in comparison.

Well, that's Peugeot Sport for you.

Interesting. Peugeot seems to have left their malaise era of ~2002-2012 for good. After being pleasantly surprised by the vanilla 308 (the new one) I'm really curious about the upcoming 308 R. Like the article mentions, the Golf GTi should worry.

Only a true Peugeot fan would spell GTI with a lowercase i, even when talking about a VW. ^^

But yeah, it all sounds great for Peugeot. Every review of the RCZ R I've read so far has been very good indeed, but this is undoubtedly the most elogious. If the RCZ R's engine and suspension and the 308's chassis and handling are anything to go by, the 308 R will be bloody fantastic.

I hope so. Although I like the looks of the (rear of the) RCZ, it's just too impractical for me. I think the directness of the tiny steering wheel in the 308 will be a huge benefit in the sporty compacts class, as long as people give it a chance to get accustomed to it.

And yes, my only road legal car is a 406 coupe, but that's got rear buckets usable for adults and they even fold down. I wasn't too impressed with the interior of the RCZ either when I sat in one over a year ago, but that might've been due to the huge contrast with my current car.

Finally it gets the performance (and face) that that body deserves. Excellent!

I'm not a big fan of the interior either, if I'm honest, it just looks too much like the dreadful old 308's interior, even with leather and that fancy clock. Oddly enough, I think the RCZ would have looked great with the interior from the 3008 crossover (yes, you read that right) :

Looks nice. Maybe I should go down to the local dealer for a test dri-

...Oh right. I live in the US which means fucking dumbass import laws will keep me from driving this thing in the flesh until I'm ready to collect Social Security. Fuck.

+1 on your impression of the vanilla 308 and being excited about the R. I work at a Peugeot/Mazda/Hyundai dealer now and have driven both the new 308 and 208 GTi. The 208 GTi is amazeballs and I've no doubt that the 308 and RCZ R are going to be amazing as well!

Have you driven both the old and the new 308? Besides the obvious dash layout differences, how different are they to drive when equipped with a similar engine? If I'm not mistaken the RCZ is based on the old 308.

I think I've driven the old 308 a few meters at most just to park it somewhere else but I've driven the new one home from work and back again. Not really enough to compare the two I must say other than that they're both decent, regular FWD cars.
